Our Association
The “Puerto Rico Water & Environment Association”, is a non for profit organization dedicated to foster the understanding and development of the environmental fields of drinking water, wastewater and the environment. PRW&EA is comprised of the local section of the“American Water Works Association” (AWWA) and the member association of the Water Environment Federation (WEF). These organizations are recognized worldwide for their commitment of promoting the water quality and the betterment of the water professionals in these fields.

American Water Works Association (AWWA) is an international non-profit professional organization dedicated to the improvement of water quality and supply. Founded in 1881, it claims a membership of around 56,000 members worldwide as of 2010. AWWA is the largest organization of water professionals in the world, representing more than 100 countries. AWWA members represent the full spectrum of the water community: water utilities, treatment plant operators and managers, scientists, environmentalists, manufacturers, academics, regulators, and others with an interest in water supply and public health. AWWA accomplishes its mission through advocacy, communications, conferences, education and training, science and technology, and local action among 43 AWWA Sections throughout North America.

The Water Environment Association (WEF) is a non-for-profit Association that provides technical education and training for thousands of water quality professionals who clean water and return it safely to the environment. For more than 80 years, WEF members have proudly worked to protect public health serve their local communities and support access to clean water worldwide. As leading source of water quality expertise, WEF is committed to the water profession by providing unparallel access to the field’s best science, engineering and technical practices. WEF’s programs and services support the protection of public health and sustainable water environment. Formed in 1928, the Water Environment Federation® (WEF®) is a not-for-profit technical and educational organization with 36,000 individual members and 75 affiliated Member Associations representing water quality professionals around the world. WEF and its Member Associations proudly work to achieve our mission of preserving and enhancing the global water environment®.
